ALI LIEBERT is a queer filmmaker and performer raised on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. After studying musical theatre at The Canadian College of Performing Arts, Ali quickly gained momentum as a rising television and film actor in Canada. Her career continues to take her across the globe, garnering her more than 100 acting roles and numerous awards and nominations for both acting and directing.
Her recent directing credits include CHRISTMAS IN NOTTING HILL (Hallmark, 2023) shot on location in Dublin and London and THE HOLIDAY SITTER (Hallmark, 2022) which made history as Hallmarks first queer led film.
Ali began her directing career in 2018 with her first movie for television, AMISH ABDUCTION (Lifetime), a moody thriller which gained her a Director’s Guild of Canada Award nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement - Movies for Television and Mini-Series (2020). The film was also nominated for a Leo Award for Best Television Movie and Best Lead Performance by a Female.
Ali’s debut short film, THE QUIETING, a queer, genre-bending thriller, made its world premiere at Inside Out Toronto LGBTQ Film Festival (2020). The film, which Ali wrote, directed and produced, has since screened at multiple festivals across North America. Ali is thrilled to have received an EDA Award nomination for "Best Female-Directed Short” from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and Whistler Film Festival for The Quieting. Her second short film, CALLS FROM A BRIDGE, shot on a virtual production stage, made it's world premiere at Whistler Film Festival (2022).
Best known for her portrayal of Betty McRae in Reelz/ Global TV's original hit series, BOMB GIRLS, Ali received a Canadian Screen Award (Canadian Emmy) and Leo Award for this role. Television acting credits include: One of Us Is Lying (NBC Universal/Peacock), Family Law (Global/CW), Van Helsing (Netflix/Syfy), MechX4 (DisneyXD), Lost Girl (Syfy), Ten Days in the Valley (ABC), iZombie (CW), Legends of Tomorrow (CW), Harper's Island (CBS) and Strange Empire and Intelligence, both on the CBC to name a few.
Feature film acting credits include Troy Ruptash’s THEY WHO SURROUND US (EIFF), Sook-Yin Lee's YEAR OF THE CARNIVORE (TIFF), Ben Ratner's DOWN RIVER (VIFF) and FOXFIRE (TIFF) (based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel), which was written and directed by Palme d'Or winning French filmmaker Laurent Cantet for Paris-based Memento Films International. Ali was also extremely honoured to work alongside Academy Award Nominee Michael Clark Duncan and Emmy Award Nominee Loretta Devine in the Robert Townsend dramatic feature, IN THE HIVE. Ali was also thrilled to be a part of Stephen Chbosky's WONDER, starring Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay.
